His three sons – Ernest Jr, Herbert, and Walter Miller – helped their father grow the family business for over 100 years. In the 1990s, Miller Paint became an employee-owned company. Miller Paint has been a part of the fabric of the Pacific Northwest for 130 years. Our company was founded on the creativity, innovation, and commitment to quality of a young artist from Germany, Ernest Miller. In Portland in the late 1800s, there was not a local paint manufacturer.

Miller Paint has a rich history of local manufacturing that began in Portland, Oregon, in the late 1800s. Founded by Ernest Miller, a muralist and scenic artist from Germany, started painting houses in the young city upon his arrival to the United States.
