Local Manufacturing

Miller Paint has a rich history of local manufacturing that began in Portland, Oregon, in the late 1800s. Founded by Ernest Miller, a muralist and scenic artist from Germany, started painting houses in the young city upon his arrival to the United States.

Since there were no paint manufacturers in the region at the time, back orders on products shipping from the east were frequent and the performance of the paints available at the time did not stand up to the demands of the rainy Pacific Northwest weather. Miller drew on his artist background and began grinding his own pigments and making his own paints. He soon became known throughout Portland for making high quality paints with excellent color retention, formulated specifically for the Pacific Northwest. We continue our founder’s legacy today by still manufacturing our paint right here in Portland, Oregon. Committed to the same values of quality and innovation, our paints are Made Here. For Here.
